Starting a new year can be both exciting and frightening. Many opportunities present themselves, but the shadow of uncertainty may still linger because of unnecessary hurdles we place in front of ourselves. The year 2022, for some people, was a year full of enjoyment, change, and new life achievements. However, for others, it was a tragic year full of grief, confusion and struggles to live better.  If you’re among those seeking some friendly advice on how to thrive more in 2023 than in 2022, I’ve listed some random unsolicted advice below:

  • Clear your cache. Clear your inbox – When websites fail to load properly and your PC and yes, even your smartphone starts to slow down in speed; often times it leads to weird glitches. Clearing your cache helps to clear up space on your hard-drive. You should clean your email inbox messages to start the year with a clean slate.
  • Conduct an honest self-assessment. Be introspective. Introspection gives you access to understanding yourself, and an honest self-assesssment lets you process what you’ve learn, and helps you to gain insight to come up with the answers that you can now act upon.
  • Charge people for your time. This is especially important for small business owners, teachers and advisors. If you expect people to value your time as much as you do, charge for it. This way you’ll never feel like it’s being wasted.
  • Stop chasing pleasure.
  • Stop waiting for the other shoe to drop.
  • Stop giving advice to people who are happily self-destructing.
  • Befriend winners. Lots of them! Winners are always in company with other winners. This is why you’ll never see them talking about about “cutting people off” at the end of every year. Only losers have that problem. I get there are times when you’ve reached your limit. But, we must understand winners move different. Mastering how to navigate in their relationships are crucial part of their success. They don’t sit in the losers section ever—not even for drinks. You are the sum of those you spend most of your time around.
  • Fall in love. Avoiding it because miserable people say it sucks is like avoiding exercise because a fat guy says it’s hard.
  • Develop a new skill – When you learn a new skill, it has benefits that go way beyond the actual skill learned. Not only is it a resume booster. But you can make more connections. Expand your brain cells and becoming a more interesting person.
  • Mind your own business.
  • Limit other people’s access to you.
  • Smile more.
  • Take action.

When you are captivated with your purpose it’s hard to become distracted with anything else. Between COVID, lockdowns, mass chaos and our social media feeds, the past two years have been distracting enough. Now that some form of normalcy has returned it’s time to get back to your purpose and focus. Set some new goals and don’t take your eyes off the prize.
